OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The aim of the EMRO Medical unit is to provide medical and nursing care to EMRO staff and country office staff , including medical evacuations and all other services

Description Of Duties

The incumbent will perform the following duties:CClinical nursing:a) Administer medicaments for minor ailments and first-aidb) Inoculate and vaccinate staff members and their dependents.c) Provide advice to staff in undergoing entry and periodic medical examinations, conduct physical exams such as ECG, eye examiniations.d) Advise staff members on specialised doctors and hospitals for treatment .e) In coordination with the RSP, be responsible for the admissions of the staff members in case of medical evacuation.f) Provide counselling to staff member on medical problems.g) Prepare staff member for mission travel: Give advice of the medical fitness on the system, advise on necessary vaccinationsh) As delegated by RSP, evaluate, define and manage annual requirements for vaccines, medicines and equipments, and manage the pharmacy (place order, receive dekiveries, manage and computerize stock)i) Regularly update medical service inventory.j) Support the RSP in carrying out programmes to promote safety ( eg. first aid in the workplace)k) Assist the RSP with administrative and medical issues during consultations.Administrative functions:a) Correspond/Communicate with/Instruct staff in connection with medical examinations, sick leave, maternity leave, duty incurred accidents.b) Brief newly appointed staff members assigned either to the Regional Office or in the field, on subjects related to hygiene and sanitary conditions; Anti-malaria prophylaxis in required countries.c) Maintain the confidential medical files of staff members in EMRO region;d) Ensure that PREVENTIEL medical data base is updated with all necessary documents in a timely manner.e) Prepare invoices for clearance by RSPf) Coordinate dates, invitations to meetings, meetings minutes, and distribute information and records as may be required.g) Work in collaboration with the RSP office team to ensure smooth workflow.h) When required, represent physicians on committee on Health and safety at work and participate in working groups.Achievement activities include: - A smooth running of the Medical Centre; Efficient medical and nursing services to all Regional Office staff.

Required Qualifications

Education

Essential: Completion of secondary school supplemented by a post secondary school paramedical training in nursing

Desirable: University degree in nursing

Experience

Essential: At least 8 years of practical experience as a nurse in hospital / dispensary

Desirable: Knowledge and experience in clinical nursing, planning and organizing. Additional experience in emergency care, occupational medicine as well as in administration is an added asset

REMUNERATION

WHO offers staff in the General Services category an attractive remuneration package, which for the above position includes an annual net base salary starting at EGP 201,105 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
