POSITION SUMMARY: The Health &Safety Support Specialist will provide primary Health and Safety support to the East Lime terminals and secondary support to the plants.

Responsibilities & Expectations

Health and Safety

Responsible for compliance with OSHA/MSHA regulations including employee training, delivery, and documentation:

  • Maintain records in accordance with company/location policy.
  • Support all accident and incident investigations for facilities in area of responsibility.
  • Assist Health and Safety with reports to Workers’ Compensation and monitor Workers’ Compensation claims.
  • Assist Health and Safety in the completion and submittal of any company, local, state or federal agency reports.
  • Provide the necessary documentation to Regional Safety and Terminal Supervisor/Plant Managers to demonstrate proper employee training.
  • Train employees on relevant procedures, practices, and regulations.
  • Support site contractor audit process.
  • Participate and be a leader in Terminal/Plant and Regional Health & Safety projects and supporting efforts.
  • Coordinate safety incentive programs and audit for consistency.
  • Develop a system to periodically review and audit health and safety programs.
  • Work with Regional Safety Managers to coordinate site trainings.
  • Perform and assist in the development of Job Safety Analysis and work with site supervisors/managers to develop health/safety and compliant work procedures
  • Provide front end input for safety and compliance on all capital projects, equipment or process changes.
  • Create best practices for health/safety protocol implementation and follow up.
  • Manage all site health/safety functions including walking with OSHA/MSHA and conducting site specific training
  • Maintain all site health/safety documentation
  • Arrange/hold annual OSHA/MSHA refresher training as appropriate
  • Hold health/safety meetings as appropriate

Health/Safety Program

  • Participate in efforts on the Health/Safety Task Force
  • Perform routine inspections of site and equipment
  • Coordinate safety incentive programs for consistency as needed
  • Develop a system to periodically review and audit health and safety programs
  • Coordinate health/safety committee/teams functions
  • Perform / Assist in the development of Job Safety Analysis and work with managers to develop safe and compliant work procedures.

Assist/Manage the analysis of compliance programs and develop best practices

  • Provide front end input for safety and compliance on all capital projects, equipment or process changes
  • Ensure compliance and maintenance of company/site Industrial Hygiene program
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Attributes

  • Knowledgeable of state and federal laws, regulations and agencies (MSHA, OSHA, DOT), the regulatory process, and the procedure for obtaining information is preferred.
  • Ability to influence change with key personnel at all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Strong interaction skills with regulatory inspectors including accompaniment on inspections and follow-up activities as required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate on all levels.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects and meeting all required deadlines.
  • Consistently provide professional, friendly assistance to hourly employees, executives, customers, consultants, and fellow co-workers at all times.
  • Strong organizational skills required for thorough follow through of multiple projects involving an extensive network of departments and people.
  • Must be capable of working overtime, weekends or holidays, if needed.
  • Must have strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint software.

Physical Demands Include, But Are Not Limited To

  • Access all areas within a site which could include heights of 120 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and accessing tunnels.
  • Will be working in a office environment generally but will have some responsibilities in the plant as well.
  • The employee will be required to perform the following actions (from time to time): Standing, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, seeing, hearing and sitting.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to travel up to 40%

Required Experience: Must have 2-4 years of progressive operations health & safety support responsibilities in a manufacturing or mining environment. Proven ability of supporting multiple locations within an organization is desired. Strong sense of confidentiality and handling sensitive information is required.

Required Education: High School Diploma, GED Equivalent. Administrative training or certification and/or AA degree in Health and Safety, business, management, English, HR, related field and/or equivalent work experience in the field is desired.
