Research Assistant (Production System)

The WorldFish Abbassa Centre, in Sharkia Governorate, Egypt is implementing the Sustainable Transformation of Egypt's Aquaculture Market System (STREAMS). STREAMS is SDC funded project for 3 years to improve performance of the Egyptian aquaculture. WorldFish wishes under the Sustainable Aquaculture program (Fish CRP) and through STREAMS project to recruit a Research technician to help in duties associated with its ongoing research and outreach activities including field and laboratory work. The candidate will support Abbassa genetic research team in implementing bilateral funded project and implement center research plan. Key Responsibilities Under the guidance of the STREAMS project manager and research leaders, the research technician roles and responsibilities are as follows: Work closely with STREAM project working team to implement project activities Conduct producing fish under different production system as assigned Collect and analyze water quality and interprets results and be able to undertake remedial measures if necessary Inspect and ensure proper functioning and cleanliness of the production facilities (hapas, aquaria, tanks, ponds, pumps, filters etc.) Prepare feed and feed experimental fish according to schedule and research protocol Handle fish with care as required in performing duties Follow research experiments including on weekends Conduct data entry of records of feeding and health records assigned specific hatchery duties as a primary responsibility Work under supervision or independently to carry out and follow through research experiments Communicate verbally and/or orally any challenge with fish and equipment encountered to supervisors Act upon recommendations of supervisor to resolve problems encountered from time to time Maintain confidentiality of information of the organization Perform any other related duties as assigned.

Desired Skills and Experience: Undergraduate degree in aquaculture, fisheries, biological, ecological, or natural resource major with 1-2 year experience Basic computer skills Ability to conduct supervised field sampling in aquatic environments Must be able to communicate in both written and spoken English Ability to sample and handle live fish Experience with handling basic water quality analyses Must be a team player able to participate in teams handling field and laboratory activities Must be flexible enough to work in laboratory, office and in the field Previous experience in a research institution not essential but will be an added advantage.

Benefits:This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position with salary ranging between EGP 3,800 - EGP 4,200 per month. WorldFish's NRS shall receive comprehensive benefits including (but not limited to) insurance coverage for staff and eligible dependents, and pension/provident fund contribution. Our Offer This position will be based in Abbassa, Egypt. The initial employment contract will be for 14 months.
