Job Description

As a Country Health, Safety & Environment Manager, you will be part of the Country Staff Sustainability Affairs Division, based in Cairo. ABB’s Sustainability Affairs organization comprises some 600 people, located in more than 50 countries. Not all of these people are working full-time on sustainability activities – many having additional, but often related, roles. Chaired by ABB’s CEO, this is a panel of independent experts, meeting two or three times a year, which offers objective advice on ABB’s sustainability management program.

Tasks

Your tasks as a Country Health, Safety and Environment Manager will include the following:

Metrics Consolidation:

Metrics Consolidates data from the incident database and reports on Health, Safety and Environment incidents to regulators and insurance companies and on country performance to Country Managing Director. Report serious and fatal incidents to respective Region HSE Manager within required timescales, Reports on implementation progress of Group Sustainability Objectives and KPIs to ABB Group, as required.

Regulatory compliance:

Track and assess country-related emerging trends, legislation and communicate country relevant information on Health, Safety and Environment local legal requirements. Assist Country Managing Director in Understanding his/her obligations, liability and how to fulfil their role, according to local Health, Safety and Environment law.

Risk management:

Provide or participate in efficient and competent delivery of training, audit and key risk programs within the constituent countries or via shared service centers, where they exist.

Continuous improvement:

Drive behavioral change to continuously improve Health, Safety and Environment, Sustainability and CR performance through coordinated Group-wide performance improvement programs and initiatives. Support the sharing of best practices, and apply Group standardized processes to deliver consistent support within the respective organization.

Communication and Engagement:

Engage external (e.g. customers, suppliers, relevant authorities and other stakeholders) and internal stakeholders in order to report on, raise awareness and gain commitment on ABB's Health, Safety and Environment, Sustainability efforts, performance and obtain objective feedback. Cooperate with other functions and business partners to drive performance.

Budget:

Participate in defining the annual budget for area of responsibility and manage performance against agreed financial targets and constraints.

Operational support:

Provide support services to ensure that Management Systems in the country meet corporate Business Unit and local legal requirements. Work with communication colleagues in the implementation of community engagement initiatives.

Project Management:

Contribute to and/or plan and execute Health, Safety and Environment, Sustainability and CR related projects. Develop and report on project objectives. Manage project resources such as manpower, financials and other relevant factors.

Governance and organization:

May have additional accountability as a Lead Country HSE Manager to assist the Region HSE Manager to maintain competent functional country support and shared services and to deliver training, audit and key risk programs to the Divisions and Business Units throughout the constituent countries in alignment with the regional plan and ensure that all ABB entities in those countries operate in compliance with the relevant legal obligations, as well as ABB Group standards.

People leadership and development:

Ensure that the area of responsibility is appropriately organized, staffed, skilled and directed. Guide, motivate and develop direct/indirect subordinates within HR policies.

Requirements

Ideally, you should have a bachelor’s degree and associate diplomas and Health, Safety and Environment certifications with more than 12 years of prior work experience. Proficiency in English, Arabic and French Languages is required.
