As the Legal Counsel for Shell Egypt and UAE you will be expected to provide legal support to DS businesses of Shell in Egypt and UAE by dividing your time between these two jurisdictions as per business needs, based in the Cairo offices of Shell Lubricants. For dealing with UAE legal issues, it is expected that you will travel to and stay in Dubai on a regular basis (to be determined but could be for a week every month) as required to meet business needs in addition to working virtually with colleagues from UAE as required.

You will be responsible for

Professional, pro-active, timely, cost-effective and practical legal advice and support to the DS businesses and relevant functions in in Egypt and UAE and with the support of the AGC DS for the region. Working in collaboration with local Head of Legal in Egypt on local legal work which is not specific to any business including real estate, HR, regulatory, corporate. Supporting contract negotiation, finalization and execution with customers, suppliers and distributors relating to Shell’s business in Egypt and UAE. Legal advice to Shell DS in Egypt and UAE on employee/labour law issues, company secretarial support to Shell Lubricants Egypt (but not SMME) and other corporate matters including local regulatory requirements and licensing. Conducting or managing local Litigation matters as appropriate and coordinating as necessary with Shell Legal Global Litigation on major matters. You will also be required to advise the DS Co-ordination Team in Egypt and UAE and provide support to the Country Chair (and SLE MD) on a need basis.

Support the Shell Legal strategic intent with a specific focus on Continuous Improvement including functional excellence and cost management. Develop and sustain relationships with colleagues at senior management level and external stakeholders and be accepted by them as a valued team member. Maintain and develop internal networks within Global Legal. Maintain and develop external networks and play an active role as appropriate.

Requirements The experience and qualifications required for this position include

Understanding of Shell’s DS business or able to gain this quickly Qualified and experienced Egyptian lawyer with at least 10years’ experience in a well-respected law firm, multinational or large local company legal department with responsibilities similar to those required in this role, including commercial legal advice, company secretarial support, advice on real estate, regulatory, compliance matters and litigation management. Excellent command of both Arabic and English languages, both spoken and written. Able to promote the contribution of Legal to business goals and contributor to an ethical culture. Strong business partnering skills. Strong problem-solving ability.
